Pylon hunt 19: Redbourn, 16th September 2023
| Destination | Redbourn |
|---|---|
| Goals | PL16 D2S with semi-tension set |
| Distance | 15.5 miles |
| Walk number | 174 |
I’d been a bit unwell for a few days so I opted for a shorter walk to conserve energy, a “mere” 15½ miles … It was quite a hazy day and I was concerned that the haze would interfere with the photography, but it wasn’t a significant problem.
Note the haze in the air …
I spent time exploring the public footpath map to find an alternative route; this delightful lane is one I’ve never investigated before.
Sheep …
(Someone will understand that.)
Just some views of the fields:
A “forbidden passage”, so implies the footway closed sign … but nothing seems closed about it.
Very little in the way of photos of Redbourn itself, unfortunately.
Jumping ahead to the edge of Redbourn, and finally I get chance to take some decent shots of the L7(c) towers:
The primary objective of this walk was to get closer to a pylon discovered on Coronavirus walk 112 to Piccotts End: a PL16 line tower with semi-tension insulator sets on the bottom phases. With 12× zoom instead of 3× zoom and a way to get closer to it, I can get a better photo of it than I did last time.
Heading back out of Redbourn …
Finally here:
Sadly, this is the only tower known to have such a modification in this area.
Time to head back.
A Sycamore (Acronicta aceris) caterpillar crossing the road:
Back to walking …
Watching trains for a few minutes …
It finally started raining just before I got home, so I got to chill out in the rain for a little while, which was excellent.
