Developer notes

Those wishing to recompile my software under Mac OS will need Thomas Tempelmann’s Alias Mgr (Mac Alias Record) plugin for REALbasic; as this plugin is referenced by my PreferencesFile class. My software uses the Carbonised version of this plugin, and because the link to it has become a 404, I have posted a copy of the Carbonised plugin for download here. You may also want to make use of the tools listed below.

Note that the contents of this page are subject to change without notification – I do not plan to announce updates to these tools and this information in the regular site notices.

Developer tools

The following programs are of use to people working with my software at the source code level; they are of limited or no use to anyone else. Downloads from this page are all Macintosh applications for 8.1-9.2.2 unless otherwise stated and come with REALbasic 3.5.2 source provided.

Binary Postprocessor 1.3.1

A utility that puts the finishing touches to applications after compiling. At present, this includes choosing the icon suite (7 - 8.1, 8.5 - 9.2.2 or X), setting the custom icon, get front clicks and stationery flags, and choosing the file type (APPL, appe, and APPC). This program deals with the !Postprocess files found in application packages, which are normally there to handle the 32-bit custom icon (and other custom icon resources) stored in the Resources file.

PrefEdit 1.3.5

A utility for editing the preferences files of all of my software, which are in a proprietary format unique to my software; helpful as a debugging tool when making changes to programs and tweaking and twiddling. PrefEdit 1.3 is compiled for both Mac OS 8/9 and Windows; PrefEdit Macintosh can open both formats but PrefEdit for Windows can only open Windows preferences files as the Macintosh variety are resource fork dependent.
