Spaced-out Samsung

My digital telephone at work spontaneously started displaying “spaces” at random all over the display. The spaces did not actually remove the existing character, so further display updates would leave existing characters in the gaps, leading to all manner of nonsensical text:

At one point, it even drew an incorrect character as well:

The fault disappeared a few hours later, although the hissing emitted from the speakerphone loudspeaker didn’t stop.
