IBM 07G1451

IBM part 07G1451 is an IBM Personal System/2 Japanese Keyboard Type 2 (model 5576-002), manufactured by Alps Electric in Japan. The Alps model number is KFCREA087A (something that went entirely overlooked when the eBay listing was posted to the Deskthority forum). These keyboards are well-known, but seldom depicted with their original box. The example below is an exceptional rarity in that not only is the original box present, but the owner photographed the Alps product label on the box, which gives the Alps model number. Although the switches are not shown, and whoever bought this keyboard is unlikely to share any information about it (interesting keyboards sold on eBay tend to vanish into oblivion), the Alps label contains an interesting hint: the name of a new keyboard series (KFCR) and new switch series (SKCR). Although it is not possible to know for certain what type of switch this keyboard uses, there are only two switch types known, and this gives a fairly good indication of what SKCR is (one of the two PCB-mount plate spring types).

The photographs below are archived from eBay listing 373638258480 “Vintage Keyboard IBM 5576 002 NIB NOS RARE Japanese Special Edition” from seller beamsummer; this listing has since been deleted from eBay.

The “OP. No.” is D51904290, and the lot number is 2903JR101. The serial number is 99Y1690. The FRU part number is 94X1110.
