KBK update for Thursday, 28th October

While compiling a list of HP switch parts (following on from the discovery of Licon Series 54 part numbers), Google suggested HP part number “3101-2463” to me, which turned out to be Maxi-Switch part 600014 according to NSN records. I tracked this down to the standard switch used in HP’s 9826/9836 machines, per the relevant service manual at the HP Computer Museum. These keyboards (and the derived Multi Metrics Geomet 200) used “Maxi-Switch vintage linear” switches, already proved to be Maxi-Switch 6000 series. This in turn led to five more NSN-listed Maxi-Switch models, all with part numbers beginning “6000”; two more of these were also used by HP. NSN record details are hopelessly unreliable, but it’s curious to note that, of the types used by HP, two are listed as having a white plunger, and one is listed as having a brown plunger. (There is not enough information in discovered examples of these keyboards to know what the other white-plunger switch type may be.) The service manual for the 9826/9836 keyboards only lists the part number for the main alphanumeric switch; perhaps some other documentation somewhere lists the remaining switch types used in that keyboard.

Sadly there is no sign of anyone else being aware of any of these Maxi-Switch types. There is a site that had some HP switches for sale at some point, but they chose not to photograph them while they were in stock, and now none are left.
