Overview
Royal Mail Engineering & Construction, abbreviated “Romec”, took over manufacture of Royal Mail post boxes from Machan Engineering. Romec post boxes are manufactured entirely from pressed steel, with adhesive and welding used to affix legends that were previously incorporated into cast iron moulds. In 2017, Romec became part of Royal Mail Property & Facilities Solutions with the Romec name phased out. Machan Engineering finally closed in 2016, likely as a result of the loss of the Royal Mail business.
