Overview
L4(m) 66 is a 66 kV UK electricity pylon series. L4(m) 66 is a derivative of L4(m) designed as a substitute for obsolete SL tower types, in particular Blaw Knox K9906, as noted in [NSP/004/030]. The key diagrams for the D3 and D30 towers note that “remaining conditions as specification SWE SL11 - 1943”, where SWE SL11 is K9906. A significant number can be found south of Newcastle upon Tyne.
L4(m) 66 towers use reduced height tower bodies with custom crossarms and crossarm positioning. The effective standard height depends on what tower suite it is replacing: M3 when substituting for K9906 and M6 when substituting for the smaller Eve 0.1□″ SCA towers. The key diagrams for the tower suite however use the same height extension levels as for 132 kV L4(m).

Tentative confirmation for which L4(m) tower body is used as the basis for each L4(m) 66 tower comes from the L4(m) 66 key diagrams, which indicate which L4(m) key diagram should be referenced for the remaining height extensions. For example, L4(m) 66 DT 0°–45° is 5393 mm across at ground level, the same as both L4(m) D90 and DJT, but the tower bracing matches only the DJT and the key diagram effectively confirms this.
L4(m) 66 terminal towers appear to be extensively customised, with none observed thus far that match the original 1978 key diagrams.
